The Sleeping Beauty at the National Ballet of Canada
Date: June 2015
Perhaps the definitive and certainly one of the most luxuriant and purely entertaining of 19th-century classical ballets, The Sleeping Beauty has held its special place in the affections and enthusiasms of dance lovers the world over since its premiere in St. Petersburg in 1890.
Rudolf Nureyev brought his distinctive and ebullient theatricality to bear on his version of The Sleeping Beauty, which the great dancer set on the National Ballet in 1972. Today, it remains one of the company’s most beloved and admired works.
