Deux Galas de Danse

Nureyev performed in two different mixed programmes on consecutive days with Sonia Arova, Rosella Hightower and Erik Bruhn. On 12 January Nureyev’s repertoire was Toccata and Fugue, Raymonda pas de quatre, The Nutcracker pas de deux, and the Scottisch movement from Fantaisie. On 13 January Nureyev’s repertoire was Toccata and Fugue, Don Quixote pas de deux, Raymonda pas de quatre, Flower Festival at Genzano pas de deux, and the Scottisch movement from Fantaisie. At this second performance Erik Bruhn was injured and only able to dance ensemble sections, so Nureyev danced the Flower Festival pas de deux in addition to his own roles in order to enable Sonia Arova to perform a major role that evening.
