Our Funding Approach

As the Foundation approached its 50th birthday in 2025, we undertook a review of our approach to funding and partnerships. Our shift from reactive to strategic mode ensures that the Foundation’s resources work harder to support dancers and the international dance community. We welcome approaches from other Trusts, Foundations or stakeholders with an interest in working together to address shared aims and drive sustainable change. 

Our refreshed approach is grounded in three core principles: 

Strategic alignment, shared purpose and common values

We actively seek strategic partnerships with organisations and networks that share our purpose, working with them to develop programmes and projects that deliver to our funding priorities. Our values guide our choice of partners. While the Foundation welcomes enquiries from organisations, networks and individuals whose work aligns with our mission, our approach to funding is now primarily proactive. 

Delivering through partnership

The Foundation does not undertake its own projects. Instead, we work strategically and in dialogue with organisations and networks to advance our shared goals. We do not accept individual scholarship applications but continue to nurture the next generation of talent through partnerships across the international ballet sector. We want the work we support to have impact across the global ballet and dance community and we therefore look for projects and programmes that work in coalition to increase impact and reach. 

Sustainable support

The Foundation’s preference is to fund over multiple years. We believe that sustained investment produces better outcomes – and we recognise the demand on resources when organisations are required to make annual applications for multi-year projects. We do not fund the full cost of any project, because we want the work we support to be sustainable beyond the Foundation’s involvement.
