The support of the Rudolf Nureyev Foundation enables prize winners to attend top-tier schools and companies, bridging the gap between training and a professional career.
Since its first edition in 1973, the Prix de Lausanne has established itself as an unmissable annual event and a global benchmark in its field. Much more than just a competition, the Prix de Lausanne supports the most promising young dancers throughout the year through education, training and logistical assistance.
Blake Metcalf, 15 years old, from the United States, has been awarded the first Rudolf Nureyev Award following the competition finals on February 7 2026.
Blake was one of only 21 finalists selected by the jury from among the 79 candidates who came to Lausanne from around the world. He danced the Count Fabio Variation from Carnaval de Veniseby Marius Petipa for his classical variation, and 20 Miles from Shore by Henry Lichtmacher for his contemporary variation.
Blake has chosen to join the Royal Ballet School, where he will continue his training from Autumn 2026. The Prix de Lausanne coordinates with the student and the school to facilitate his transition and the start of the school year.
This scholarship represents a major opportunity and the fulfillment of a long-held ambition for Blake, who says ‘joining the school has been a dream of mine since I began ballet’.
The Rudolf Nureyev Foundation Award will not only help this talented young dancer on the road to a successful career. It also fulfils Nureyev’s ambition, that his legacy is harnessed to provide the stars of tomorrow with the support they need today.
